Batch Geocode Correction

Not all geocodes have the same accuracy
The quality of geocoded data can vary substantially depending many factors. A geocode produced from a particular reference data source will have an underlying accuracy associated with it that relates directly to:
  1. The geography of the reference feature selected as a match for the input address
  2. The matching process used to select the reference feature
  3. The interpolation process used to produce the output from the reference feature
For example, the geocoder on this site can produce geocodes from parcel, street segment, and ZIP code databases (among others), resulting in geocodes with qualities relating to parcel centroids, address range interpolation, and ZIP code centroids. The complete list of geocode qualities produced by the Texas A&M Geoservices Geocoder are listed in the following table.
Exact parcel centroid
Uniform lot interpolation
Address range interpolation
ZIP code centroid
City centroid
County subdivision centroid
County centroid
State centroid
Country centroid
Unmatchable
Not all geocode accuracies are always appropriate
Whether or not the geocode produced by the geocoder is of acceptable quality will depend on the particular needs of the user. For example, in one scenario ZIP code centroid accuracy geocodes might be perfectly acceptable while in another they may not.

In the cases where the quality of a geocode is not high enough given the task for which it is to be used, attempts can be made to improve its quality. This is the main goal of the geocode correction service provided by this site.
